The Production Calendar

Plan Cut, Carve, Sandblast, Engrave, QC and Ready against real days for real orders, with the one catch you need to know first: events save on your computer only, not for your team.

The Production calendar is a second calendar that sits beside your install calendar. The install calendar answers when does the crew set the stone. The production calendar answers when does the shop cut, carve, sandblast and engrave it. Every event points at a real order, so a click takes you straight to that order.

Production events are shared with your whole team. They are stored on your MonuDesk account, not in one browser, so everybody at your company sees the same shop schedule from any computer, tablet or phone. Plan the week here and the office and the shop floor are reading the same plan.

Events you entered before this changed did not come across. Production events used to live only in the browser you typed them into, and there was no way to carry them onto the account. Anything you booked in the old version is not on the calendar any more and has to be entered again. Nothing else is affected: install dates, promise dates and everything on the order itself were always saved normally.

Where to find it

The same production events show up in three places.

  • The Installations page. Click Installations in the left sidebar, then flip the Table / Calendar toggle in the page header to Calendar. A second slider on the calendar itself reads Installation | Production. Click Production and the page title changes to Production.

  • The dashboard. The Calendar card carries the same Installation | Production slider, next to the Today button.

  • The order itself. Open an order and choose Scheduling in the left menu. The tab shows install scheduling and production scheduling side by side, and the production panel lists only this order's shop work. The order's right-hand column carries the short version of the same thing: a Scheduling card under the pricing card with an Installation | Production slider. An amber warning triangle sits on whichever side of that slider has nothing booked, so you can see at a glance that an order has no install date or no production events.

Plan note: the Installations page and the dashboard Calendar card are part of MonuDesk Pro. The Productions panel on an order's Scheduling tab is available on every plan.

The six shop stages

Every production event is one of six shop stages. Each has its own color, and the same six swatches sit in the calendar legend.

  • Cut (orange) - the stone comes off the saw to size.

  • Carve (blue) - shaping and hand work.

  • Sandblast (purple) - the blast booth.

  • Engrave (light blue) - lettering and dates cut into the face.

  • QC (yellow) - the check before it leaves the shop.

  • Ready (green) - finished and waiting on the crew.

The shop stage is separate from your pipeline stage. Scheduling a Cut does not move the order out of Confirmed Order, and marking it Ready does not move it to Ready to Install. The order board is yours to move as always.

Scheduling shop work

From the calendar. Click any day. A dialog opens headed with that weekday and date.

  1. If work is already booked that day it is listed at the top under Scheduled this day. Click a row to open it.

  2. Under Schedule another production event, use the Search decedent or order number box to find the order. Each result shows the decedent name, the order number, and the stone summary.

  3. Pick the order, then set Shop stage, Assign team member (it reads Unassigned until you choose someone), and Notes in the Notes for the shop box.

  4. Click Schedule production.

From the order. Open the order and go to Scheduling. If the order has no shop work booked yet, the production form is already open, so just fill it in. If it already has events you see them listed, and Add production event underneath opens the same form. Either way you get the same four fields plus a Date picker, and the order is already chosen for you. Past dates are allowed, so you can record work the shop already did.

The big difference from installs: an order can carry as many production events as you need. An install date is a single date on the order, so scheduling a new one replaces the old one. Production events are not like that. Cut on Monday, Carve on Wednesday, Sandblast the following week, a second Cut when a face has to be redone: add a row for each one and they all sit on the order together, sorted by date.

Moving and removing events

Move a day. Drag the event's pill to another day on the calendar. It saves as soon as you drop it and you get a Rescheduled confirmation naming the new date. If the save fails, the message tells you and the change is not kept.

Change the details. Click a pill to open its detail dialog. It shows the Order number and the Stone summary at the top, then lets you edit Shop stage, Date, Assign team member and Notes. Save stays greyed out until you actually change something. Open order jumps to the order. On the order's own Productions panel, use the pencil icon on a row instead.

Remove one. Use Delete event in the detail dialog, or the trash icon on the order's Productions panel. You are asked to confirm, and the confirmation names the stage and the date. Removing a production event does not touch the order: it does not change the pipeline stage, the install date, or the promise date.

Hover a pill without clicking for a quick preview: the name, the shop stage, the date, the order number, the assignee, the stone, and the shop notes.

Periods, filters and colors

The toolbar works exactly like the install calendar.

  • Period: Month, 2 Weeks, Week, 3 Days or Day.

  • Navigation: the back and forward arrows step one period at a time; Today returns to the current date.

  • Week start: weeks start on Monday.

  • Weekends: hidden by default. Open the settings gear in the calendar header and turn on Show weekends.

  • Team members: click the avatars above the grid to show only those people's work. While any avatar is selected, unassigned events drop out of view.

Coloring by stage or by office. MonuDesk picks this for you based on what you are looking at.

  • Colored by shop stage when you have one location, or when the office switcher in the top bar is set to a specific office. Pills take the six stage colors above.

  • Colored by office when you have more than one location and the office switcher is on All Locations. Each office gets its own color, and the legend gains a clickable chip per office plus Unassigned location. Click a chip to hide that location's work and click again to bring it back. The six stage swatches stay in the legend either way, so you can still read them.

The order list in the day dialog follows the office switcher too, so you only search the orders for the location you are working in.

Gotchas worth knowing

  • Everyone is working on the same schedule. Production events are shared, so a date you move is moved for the whole company. There is no private copy of the shop calendar.

  • Events take the order's location. An event added from an order's Scheduling tab is filed against that order's office, the same as one added from a calendar day, so it shows up when the calendar is filtered to that location. An order with no location of its own lands under Unassigned location in the legend.

  • Shop stages are not pipeline stages. Nothing you do here moves a card on the order board.

  • Install dates are untouched. Production events never change, clear or overwrite an install date or a promise date.

  • Only saved orders. If an order has not been saved yet, the Productions panel shows Production scheduling unavailable with the note that shop work can only be scheduled once the order has been saved.
